Luke has been playing, or involved in the administration of rugby for over 23 years. Luke played for the Melton Rugby Union Club in the Country Division from the early to late 1990’s. Luke studied Applied Science (Human Movement/ Sports Management) at the University of Ballarat and went on to undertake an administrative role with the Melton Rugby Union club as the Treasurer.
Due to the rigours of work, it wasn’t until 2013 that Luke became reinvolved in the sport, being elected as the President of the Ballarat Rugby Union Club. It was in this position where he oversaw the transformation of the club from the bottom of the ladder to premiers in only three years. Luke also oversaw the development of a Rugby Union partnership with the Ballarat City Council resulting in a permanent home for the club and the development of critical infrastructure.
In 2016, Luke formed the Victorian Country Barbarians Team, with the assistance of various regional Victorian clubs, to promote growth, leadership, teamwork and performance in Regional Victoria. Luke also initiated a Ballarat Rugby Club Junior program, the first of its kind in Ballarat’s 41-year history.
Luke is a current serving member of Victoria Police where he has undertaken a variety of roles in complex and protracted criminal investigations.
