With the completion of the first historic Quilt Program we caught with one of the inagural partcipants, Winnie Aumau, who detailed her experience with the program.
What have you learnt through the Quilt Program?
"Through the Quilt Program, both Conquest Athletic Performance and Chin Up program have taught me how important it is to start the conversation about Family violence and be aware that there are many contributing factors such as health and relationship issues."
"Conquest Athletic Performance specifically has taught me how vital it is to push yourself as an athlete and how positive body language and a positive mind set also makes you a better person both on and off the field."
How do you feel after completing the Quilt Program?
"The Quilt Program has made me feel apart of something bigger than myself."
"The Quilt has given me the platform to share how important it is to stay fit and healthy, and understand my duty as a quilt ambassador to start the conversation about Family Violence.
"Overall, I feel healthier, fitter, more knowledgeable about gender equality and I wish to see another program roll out soon to further my knowledge!"
How driven were you to be a part of the program?
"Every Monday and Wednesday night myself and my friend leave straight after school to arrive at Box Hill at 5:30pm (two trains and one bus) and get home around 10:30pm-11pm after training."
"For the 6:00am trainings on a Saturday, we leave the house at 4:30-4:45am in order to be there at 5:30am.
"As much as there were many sacrifices made both by myself and my parents to take my friend and I to training, not once have I regretted getting home late or waking up super early for the Quilt Program. Quilt was an unforgettable experience!"
